Once you have created a project and selected investigations you can delineate the investigations. If you have not selected any investigations the Delineation module will be hidden. The module will appear automatically once you have selected investigations.
Delineating your investigations allows you to split your investigations up into different layers depending on your use case. Investigations can be split up by behavioural property, geological unit or any other property you may be interested in.
Once the delineation module has appeared you can click into it
When you first open the module, you will be prompted to choose the type of layer library you want to use. At the moment we have two main libraries, a 'Preset Library' that is based on soil behaviour, and a 'Custom Defined Layer' which can be used to make any types of layers you would want.
Example of the layers you can choose if you used the NZGS Preset Library
If you selected Custom layers you will have a screen that looks like this. Where you can see your defined layers (one layer is automatically added called Unspecified) in the layer library and then some other areas that will be used to help delineate the investigations.
To add layers you can click 'Add Geological Unit'
A pop up will appear where you can give your layer a name and a style. There are predefined colours that you can select or you can customise the layer by adding the HEX colour code or the RGB code shown under predefined colours
To edit a layer name and style click the layer of interest in the Layer Library section
The same pop up as before will appear. Here you can change the name style or delete the layer as well. (Note: there always needs to be at least one layer in the library)
Once your layers are set up you can start delineating your selected investigations. There are some basic areas within our module
- The current selected investigation
- Where you can fix the axis of the investigation, once you have fixed the axis all investigations will be plotted to the same scale
- The parameters available for the selected investigation
- The parameters that are currently shown on the graphs (Item 5)
- The graph showing the selected parameters
- The delineated stick
- The layers that are visible on the delineated stick
- A map pop up showing the investigations selected in the stage, you can use this map to move between investigations by clicking the investigation of interest.
To add layers to the delineated stick you can either double click wherever you are interest in adding a layer to drag the base of the bottom layer up to add an additional layer.
To edit the layer and change the unit you can click the pencil on the delineated stick and change the unit through the drop down.
or you can use the delineated layers shown in in Item 7 from the step above.
To edit the layers you can either drag the dividers of layers up or down or you can edit the numbers shown in Item 7 above.
You can change what items are shown on the graph next to the delineated sticks by changing the parameters that are shown on the graph, you can tick or untick any available parameter shown in the parameter visibility section
You can also show or hide all by clicking the 'Show All/ Hide All' text.
You can download the delineated sticks as an excel sheet by selecting download under the export delineation section,.
Any changes to the delineated sticks will update into downstream modules like the cross section generate. This will be covered in more details in the next tutorial.
