The release of the layer library module incorporates fundamental changes to the creation and handling of ground layers and the delineation module.
Before this module was released, the delineation module offered the options of either selecting a layer library (previously created via the organisation presets) or creating/editing custom defined layers for the stage. If a ground layer was removed, each delineated investigation affected had to be updated individually. All ground layers associated with the stage were displayed on the delineation module card.
Figure 1: Previous workflow
From now on layer libraries are assigned to the stage and managed via the new layer library module. Ground layers assigned to the stage are displayed on the layer library module card instead of the delineation module card.
The layer library module’s features include:
- Selecting global and organisation layer libraries [1]
- Creating a stage layer library including creating, editing and removing ground layers
- There always needs to be at least one ground layer in a layer library (an unspecified layer is created as a default for any newly created stages and layer libraries)
- Integration with delineation (see below)
- Integration with Logger (see below)

Delineation Integration
If any changes are made to the layer library that affect delineation, a highlighted notification will appear on the delineation module card. Upon entering the delineation module, any ground layer changes will be displayed and the user will be prompted to assign a fallback layer to any removed ground layers that have been previously utilised in the delineation module.

Logger Integration
The user can select whether to assign the stage layer library to Logger via the layer library button on the Logger module card. If a layer library is selected, the ‘Geological Unit’ input in Logger will be prepopulated with a dropdown menu of the selected library’s ground layers. If no layer library is selected, the ‘Geological Unit’ input will remain a free text field. Any existing ‘Geological Unit’ inputs won’t be overwritten if a layer library is assigned to Logger retrospectively. If changes are made to the stage layer library after it has been assigned to Logger, there will be a highlighted notification on the Logger module card. The changes can be viewed and accepted by clicking on the layer library button. Green indicates newly added layers, red indicates removed layers and yellow indicates edited layers.

The recommended workflow for layer library is:
[1] Organisation layer libraries can be created and edited by admins via the organisation presets in the ‘Layer Library’ tab.
